This morning the Rector of IUIU, accompanied by Prof Muhammadnur Taha, Dean of Agribusiness & Natural Resources Sciences paid a courtesy call to HE Ahmad Ibrahim, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Uganda in his Nakasero offices.
The Rector Prof. Gyagenda welcomed the Ambassador to Uganda and informed him of the history of IUIU as the intergovernmental International University for Anglophone Africa, hosted by Uganda on behalf of the OIC.
He informed him of the fruitful linkages IUIU has established with Sudanese Universities that have trained our staff in graduate programs. He also acknowledged Prof. Muhammadnur, the former VC of Kordofan University, who has accepted to lead the formation of the Faculty of Agribusiness so that IUIU harnesses the agricultural potential on its farmland through commercialisation and training of Agribusiness innovation.
HE Ambassador Ibrahim thanked the Rector and the Dean for visiting him and praised IUIU for the work they are doing. He said Africa must reform our education to be directly linked to social and economic development. He lauded IUIU's initiative to establish an Agribusiness Faculty that focuses on value addition and production rather than just knowledge production.
He promised to promote the linkage of Sudanese Universities with several Ugandan Universities and to link IUIU with Sudanese investors for joint business projects.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ayman, the Sudanese Consul.
