The Alumni of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), under their umbrella body, IUIU Alumni Association (IUIU-AA), have launched a scholarship program to support needy students.

The Chairman IUIU-AA, Mr. AbdulNoor  Sekindi, said the scholarship program is one of the programs lined up to support the University.

The University Rector, Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyangenda, commended the Alumni for the initiative and called upon all the alumni and wellwishers to support the program. He explained that many students fail to join University, others fail to complete because of financial challenges.
"…we have over 30,000 alumni out there if we called upon all of them to contribute towards the fund, then we can have enough money to take care of the needy students, and Allah will be please with us, and everybody will benefit," Gyagenda emphasized.
In his remarks, Chairman University Council IUIU, His Excellency Faizo Al-Zamel, hailed the University for providing quality education. The chairman urged the University to continue changing communities through quality education.
The chief guest, Rt Hon. Gen. Moses Ali, represented by the Rt. Hon. Rukia Isanga Nakadaama, the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and chief alumnus commended the University for supporting government programs through offering quality education and supporting the girl child.
"The IUIU has been a good partner who has supported government programs and nurtured the girl child through her Females Campus in Kabojja. I call upon all alumni to support the University because it has nurtured us, and now it's time for us to give back, the chief guest echoed."
The dinner that was held under the theme "Re-imagining and Re-thinking the Role of the Alumni Associations in University Transformation" brought together hundreds of alumni of IUIU. The dinner was a climax of the line of activities including cleaning, career talks, medical camp, matching, sports, among others,  that started on 07th February. IUIU was established on 10th February 1988 by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in collaboration with the Government of Uganda to provide quality education to English-speaking countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 1990, the Parliament of Uganda enacted the Islamic University in Uganda Act formally establishing the University in Uganda.
