Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

The construction of the Faculty of Engineering at the Islamic University in Uganda’s (IUIU) main campus is nearing completion, currently at 88%. This milestone was shared by the project’s Construction Manager, Mr. Festus, during a site visit by officials from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and senior IUIU management members on Tuesday 12th November 2024.
The inspection team from IsDB was led by Dr. Issahaq Umar Idris the Regional Hub Manager for Islamic Development Bank, accompanied by the Vice-Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jamil Ssemwanga, Academic Registrar Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, Deputy University Secretary Mr. Rashid Kinsambwe, and University Engineer Mr. Dauda.
Dr. Inshalah Franko, the Project Management Specialist for the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), stated that the visit evaluated the construction progress, noting that substantial advancements have been made since their previous inspection three months prior. He added that the IsDB is in the process of procuring necessary items, such as furniture, ICT infrastructure, and other equipment, to ensure the facility is fully operational upon completion.
Dr. Jamil expressed deep gratitude towards IsDB for their continued support in various developmental projects at IUIU, including previous investments in hostels and other facilities. He applauded the construction team’s efforts, recognizing their role in helping IUIU achieve its expansion goals.
Mr. Festus elaborated that most block works are now complete. The facility will feature state-of-the-art lecture rooms, workshops, laboratories, offices, and student hostels with a capacity of over 500. Additionally, a fully equipped sick bay will provide essential health services to the students.
