Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

Islamic university in Uganda has hosted a delegation from The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) today Thursday 3rd March 2023 at the main campus in Mbale.
RUFORUM is a consortium of universities in Africa with membership standing at 163 universities in 40 countries which works to link member countries to create a network of problem-solving, and institutional strengthening by helping universities leverage the rationalization of resources and community engagement and the Rector IUIU prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda is a board member.
The delegation consisted of the manager of training and community development Dr Anthony Egeru, and the executive assistant to the Executive Secretary Dr Sokona Dagnoko (MS) from Mali Was welcomed by the Rector, University Secretary, Bursar, and other staff members.
The Rector, Islamic University in Uganda Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda highlighted the importance of internalization of the Islamic university in Uganda and this has been done through engaging with several organizations outside Uganda like COMSTECH.
Prof. Ismail also mentioned that IUIU is fully committed to ensuring RUFORUM and IUIU benefit from the interaction and the need for RUFORUM to offer scholarships at PhD and master's levels to IUIU.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agribusiness Prof. Mohammad Nour Taha briefed the guests on the operations of the faculty of Agribusiness including its vision and mission.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sokona Dagnoko said the purpose of the visit is to strengthen partnerships between IUIU and RUFORUM and unravel how both organizations can collaborate to achieve their missions and vision.
The guests later visited the IUIU farm where The Islamic University in Uganda is planning to establish an institute dealing with agricultural education in the name of the Faculty of Agribusiness and Natural Resource Sciences (FANRES) as a fully-fledged institution, independently generating its financial resources learning to add to agriculture education based on concrete scientific, technological and innovative backgrounds of entrepreneurship and agribusiness.
The Faculty will deal with the existing recognized four main branches of agriculture: crop production, livestock production, agricultural economics/agribusiness, and agricultural engineering in the framework of the IUIU mission, vision, and core values.
It aims principally at the training of students in the fields of agriculture at the various degree levels and undertaking research oriented towards biological sustainable development, environment conservation, and biodiversity enrichment as well as enhancing awareness of the community for agricultural production and rational sustainable use of natural resources.
