IUIU Mourns Prof. Christine Dranzoa, Vice Chancellor, Muni University

  • 01st July, 2022 7:26pm

The news of the passing of our colleague, Professor Christine Dranzoa, Vice Chancellor Muni University has hit the University fraternity like punch in the stomach.

On behalf of the Management, staff, and students of the Islamic University in Uganda, I send our deepest condolences to Professor Christine’s family, the Management, staff, and students of Muni University, the people of Moyo, West Nile and Uganda at large at this challenging time.

The world mourns with you and celebrates the extraordinary life of this brave little woman, who devoted her life to peacefully advocating for the girl child education and public university education in the West Nile and the entire country.

The establishment and existence of Muni University stand as a testimony to Professor Dranzoa’s strength of character, commitment, and dedication to education. She zealously championed the operationalization of and laying a firm foundation for Muni University.

She leaves a legacy of selfless commitment to duty, a bee’s work ethic, a sense of humor that made one feel at ease with her, and a stellar dedication to her community.

Christine’s tireless efforts earned her the respect for advocating for women’s empowerment, eradication of poverty in the region, and civic engagement. She further advanced these objectives through her service as Vice-Chancellor at Muni University and Executive Committee Chairperson of the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA).

All the above accolades notwithstanding, it is her leadership and integrity as the Head of constructing the beautiful Muni campus, located on a hill overlooking Arua city, that proved to us that the little Christine from Moyo had steel behind her benign disposition. By accomplishing so much with so little, Christine towered above all of us VCs across the country, and we loved her for it.

Would it be an exaggeration to compare her to the British Airmen of WWII, who saved Britain from Hitler, prompting Sir Winston Churchill, the English language master, to quip so beautifully, “Never before in the history of human conflict, has so much been owed by so many, to so few”

Uganda has lost a gallant trailblazer in Ugandan and East African Higher Education.

Goodbye Christine. May your family, friends, and colleagues find strength in the great lessons you left; may your soul rest in eternal peace.
