Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) held a workshop, focusing on enhancing the institution’s visibility and improving its global ranking On August 22, 2024, at the main campus in Mbale.
The event was attended by members of the university's executive board, led by the Vice-Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, who represented the Rector. The workshop explored strategies to enhance the university's international standing by leveraging available ranking systems and engaging various stakeholders.
Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, the Academic Registrar of IUIU, commended the timely organization of the workshop. She emphasized the critical importance of publishing in high-impact journals to boost the university's ranking.
Dr. Halima expressed confidence in the institution’s potential to perform better than it currently does, highlighting that IUIU can achieve higher levels of academic and research excellence.
Dr. Umar Yahya, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, highlighted the need for stakeholder engagement through stakeholder mapping as a key strategy to identify entities interested in IUIU’s projects and business ventures fostering collaborations that could further enhance the university’s reputation and visibility.
Mr. Oluwole Afolabi, the university’s Website Manager discussed the various systems that IUIU can exploit to improve its ranking, including Webometrics, Times Higher Education, and QS rankings. He highlighted the importance of maximizing the potential of these platforms to elevate IUIU's position on the global academic stage.
