IUIU Strengthens International Ties with Mahasarakham University Delegation Visit

  • 05th March, 2025 11:28am

On 4th March 2025, the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted a high-level delegation from Mahasarakham University (MSU), Thailand, marking a significant milestone in international academic and student development collaboration. The delegation was led by Associate Professor Dr. Juntip Kanjanasilp, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Learning Innovation, and Assistant Professor Dr. Anyarat Nattheeraphong, Deputy Director for Internationalisation and SDGs at the Office of General Education.

This visit builds on the strong ties established between the two institutions through the Erasmus+ program, a global initiative connecting higher education institutions. The collaboration was further reinforced when MSU invited IUIU students to participate in the Mahasarakham University Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity Camp (MSU INDIE), which focused on both academic enrichment and personal development.

IUIU’s Participation in the MSU INDIE Camp

The MSU INDIE Camp, held at MSU’s main campus and in Phuket City, Thailand, brought together students from 13 countries, including Japan, China, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Uganda. IUIU was represented by Nakkazi Hawah Musa, a law student from the Kampala Campus and former Guild Deputy Speaker, along with Mr. Saim Celik, Coordinator of the Centre for Capacity Development.

The camp featured diverse activities aimed at fostering intercultural understanding, leadership skills, and collaboration. Participants engaged in Thai language lessons, attended lectures by international professors, and worked on group projects focused on themes of inclusivity and diversity. Volunteering activities in Phuket City, including beach clean-ups and recycling initiatives, further enhanced the spirit of global citizenship and social responsibility.

During the camp, Mr. Saim Celik met with H.E. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prayook Srivilai, President (Rector) of Mahasarakham University, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Anyarat Nattheeraphong, Assistant to the President for Public Relations and Global Image. As a token of gratitude for including IUIU in the program, Mr. Celik presented MSU with an appreciation plaque and souvenirs.

Strengthening Institutional and Student Development Collaboration

On 4th March 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Anyarat Nattheeraphong conducted an interactive session with IUIU students, sharing valuable insights on global citizenship, leadership, and career development in an international context. This session was followed by a bilateral meeting between IUIU and MSU, where representatives from both institutions delivered presentations, explored potential areas of collaboration, and formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The meeting at IUIU was attended by Rector Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, Vice Rector Dr. Jamil Serwanga, and other senior management members. Representing MSU were Associate Professor Dr. Juntip Kanjanasilp, Assistant Professor Dr. Anyarat Nattheeraphong.

A Commitment to Future Collaboration

The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts and a group photo, symbolizing the strengthened partnership and shared commitment to future collaboration.

The partnership between IUIU and MSU underscores the importance of global academic cooperation, student development, and cross-cultural exchange. Both institutions look forward to leveraging this collaboration to create new opportunities that will benefit their students, faculty, and wider communities.
