Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) recently extended a warm welcome to a group of new students hailing from Nigeria, on the 30th of October 2023 at IUIU main campus boardroom.
The event was attended by IUIU's leadership represented by the vice Rector in charge of academics Dr. Jamil Serwanga, and the Academic registrar Dr, Halima Wakabi Akbar including Hon. Dr. Muhammad Mad Labor Ya'u, and the students from Nigeria.
Haji Ndaji, a Nigerian lecturer and IUIU in the faculty of Education welcomed the delegation from Kano State and commended the Governor for sponsoring students from around the world. He assured that IUIU is well-equipped to handle the educational needs of Nigerian students.
Dr. Jamil, the Vice-Rector in charge of academic affairs at IUIU, expressed gratitude to Hon. Dr. Muhammad Mad Labor Ya'u for accompanying the Nigerian students to IUIU. He praised their commitment and encouraged the newcomers to stay focused on the purpose of their stay and maintain a clear vision of their educational goals.
Dr. Jamil also gave a brief history of the Islamic University in Uganda, urging the students to familiarize themselves with both the institution and the environment through interactions with their fellow students and staff members.
He conveyed his appreciation to the Governor of Kano State, who was represented by Dr. Kabil, as well as the IUIU team, led by the Rector, Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, for fostering the strong relationship between IUIU and Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of safety, advising the students to remain vigilant while traveling to protect their lives and property.
Dr. Jamil also extended warm greetings from the Rector and officially welcomed the students to IUIU and Uganda as a whole. He highlighted IUIU's commitment to quality assurance through support for scientific research, capacity building, and the growth of the Ummah, thanking Hon. Dr. Muhammad Mad Labor Ya'u for choosing IUIU as a partner in the development of Kano State.
Honorable Dr. Muhammad Mad Labor Ya'u, commended the students for their academic excellence and stressed that the ball is in their court. He expressed confidence in the academic registrar and other members of the staff to provide the necessary resources for a successful educational journey. He urged the students to adhere to the guidelines and highlighted that IUIU is the only university in Africa hosting the students under a scholarship program, with other participants located in India.
Umar, a student leader of the delegation from Nigeria at IUIU, spoke on behalf of the student body, thanking the Governor of Kano State for the opportunity to study at IUIU. Umar also expressed gratitude to the staff members of IUIU and the student union for their warm hospitality. He promised that the students would be good ambassadors of IUIU and portray a positive image of Kano State at the university.
The event served as a promising beginning for these students, who are set to embark on their educational journey at IUIU, fostering the strong bond between Uganda and Nigeria in the field of education.
