Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

Centre for Capacity Development has organised a panel discussion on Tuesday, 21st November 2023, at the Kampala Campus.
Panellists were Dr Munir Safieldin(Unicef County Representative), Dr Yahya Sseremba (MISR, MAKARERE), and Mr Muhammad Abduweli (Independent Researcher, Tawheed Islamic Centre). The panel was moderated by Dr Taha Kasule (Director of Kampala Campus). The event was attended by several universities, student societies, and professional associations such as Uganda Muslim Lawyers which was represented by its CEO, Council Siraj Katantazi Mukasa.
The humanitarian, political, and international law aspects of the war in Palestine were discussed in depth. The panel started with welcoming remarks by CCD Coordinator Mr Saim Çelik, proceeded with opening remarks by Dr Jamil Serwanga( VR academic affairs) followed by a session of the panel and open discussion.
It was observed that over 200 people attended in a hybrid mode. It attracted an international audience from different countries thanks to the fact that the programme was its first kind in the country.
At last, Dr. Jamil thanked the panellists and participants for the great interest shown in the event. The programme was meant to familiarize the public with the ongoing aggression of Israel in Palestine, to have an intellectual discussion on the matter, and also to show solidarity against the violation of human rights.
