RECTOR'S MESSAGE TO THE 2022 FRESHERS

Our dear students, it is my great pleasure to welcome you all to Islamic University in Uganda. I'm delighted to receive you. A special welcome to those of you who are at IUIU campuses for the first time. I look forward to knowing the exceptional youthful men and women your parents have raised. We thank them for helping you, our young people, by providing you with a fantastic range of opportunities to learn, grow, and discover who you are. With that, coupled with the knowledge and skills you will get from IUIU, you can benefit your societies immensely.
Dear students of the class of 2022, you are embarking on an intellectual adventure at IUIU, a university with a great heritage. Be cognizant that IUIU is an intergovernmental institution and the second university ever to be established in Uganda (after Makerere). It offers over 90 programs consisting of undergraduate (certificates, diplomas, and degrees) and postgraduate (postgraduate diplomas, masters, and Ph.D. degrees). Therefore, at this level, know that whatever choice you make, if you commit yourself, it will help you create an education that will open new worlds and possibilities for yourself.
At the center of your IUIU experience are our Innovation Lab, Motion Analysis Research Lab (MARL), ERP system, E-voting, IUIU FM, Dawah Entrepreneurship Club (DEC), students' associations, and various sports and games that will arm you with life skills and career skills which will give you an edge in the existing cut-throat competition in your respective societies. While each of you will choose your pathway, either way, you will develop essential capacities that impact your future. Our faculties will impart knowledge, skills, and rich culture to equip you to thrive in our increasingly complex and interconnected world. Such knowledge and skills will make you succeed in both your professional and personal life. The courses and co-curricular activities that you will undertake will augment your experiences throughout your study period. Therefore, you should use your time here to explore IUIU's rich array of learning experiences to develop ways of thinking crucial to your future.
For those who may be having second thoughts about the courses you have been admitted into, please visit your Head of Department, Dean, or the Academic Registrar's office for guidance on change of course within the first three weeks of your reporting.
Dear students, IUIU has an incredible, competent and talented staff who will be your guides and allies in your educational journey. Our lecturers are leaders applying their expertise through scholarship, research, and real-world practice that will help you to address the world's most pressing challenges. Our academics are here for you, so get to know them and seek them out for assistance, whether at campus events or during office hours.
You have chosen to study at an OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation)-affiliated University. So, what does that mean for you? The heart of IUIU is a culture of discipline, hard work, and excellence to suit international levels by virtue of the fact that OIC is a global community.
Now that you have come to IUIU, I am sure that by the time you finish, you will walk out with a wide range of experiences from the lecture room, lab, studio, student organizations, clubs, athletics, exhibitions, performances, and community service programs teeming with activities and skills.
In conclusion, I would like to encourage you to take advantage of IUIU's position as one of Africa's premier international Universities. IUIU stands high and thrives because of the history of students and staff who have ventured beyond our campuses, national and regional boundaries to engage internationally.
On behalf of the OIC, Management, staff, students, and Alumni of this mighty University, I want to welcome you once again to IUIU. You should feel free, feel at home, explore the opportunities therein and commit your energy to your studies. It is an honor to welcome you to this vibrant learning community of the Islamic University in Uganda.
