Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

The Executive Director, National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Prof. Mary J. N. Okwakol commended the Islamic University in Uganda for embracing innovation and technology and specifically, the Open Distance E-Learing (ODeL). The statement was made when Prof. Okwakol inspected the IUIU stalls which showcased technology, innovation, Online Teaching and Learning system, Agriculture, and value addition during the 13th edition of the NCHE exhibition at the UMA show ground in Lugogo.
The IUIU Rector, Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda highlighted the need for all higher institutions of learning to take on online learning if they are to survive the changing times. "ODeL is now the way to go because it will help us reduce on the costs of teaching and learning, enable us to ensure uninterupted learning, as well as increase our reach on the international students." Prof. Ismail recommended. He emphaised that after COVID-19 interuption of the education system, international students find it a challenge to fly from their countries to come and study in Uganda and that ODeL is the the solution to that interuption.
The three-day exhibition that tookplace from 22nd to 24th of September 2022 brought together relevant stakeholders to showcase the responses to the challenges faced by higher education institutions, with special attention to the global disruption created by COVID-19. This is also built on the notion of the relevance of higher education institutions in making contributions to the advancement and development of society.
