Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, a delegation from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), led by the Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Dr. Jamil Serwanga, visited Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano.
The delegation was received by Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, and several members of the university's administration.
Professor Gwarzo emphasized in his remarks the importance of collaboration, specifically in the area of capacity building, which will significantly advance research for the betterment of Africa.
As he further asserted, staff development and student exchange were additional areas in which collaboration between the two institutions was necessary to advance academic excellence.
Prof. Gwarzo, who characterized IUIU as a promising African institution, extended his gratitude to the team for their visit and affirmed MAAUN's preparedness to guarantee the efficient execution of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that had been previously executed in the mutual interest of the two institutions.
It is worth noting that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between MAAUN and IUIU on March 28, 2023, encompassing multiple domains of research and development.
The IUIU team commended Prof. Gwarzo for his substantial investments in the university. The delegation was shown several locations throughout the visit, including the Senate building, the Murtala Mohammed Library, and the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Lecture Theatre, in addition to student dormitories.
Dr. Serwanga urged the students in the Twin Lecture Theatre to maximize the potential of the university-provided opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills to contribute to the progress of Africa and Nigeria.
Dr. Wakabi Akbar was delighted by the substantial enrollment of female students at the university and thanked Professor Gwarzo for granting the girl-child the chance to pursue her education there.
Additional representatives from the IUIU include Ismail Yusulmus, Officer in Charge of International Students; Imran Ahmad, Assistant Lecturer, Kabiru Getso Haruna, Executive Secretary, Kano State Scholarship Board; and Magaji Babawo, Executive Secretary, SUBEB, Bauchi were present.
