Human rights are fundamental entitlements inherent to every individual from birth until death. The Human Rights Open Day in Kawuku, Wakiso District, was organized to educate the community, raise awareness, address grievances, and provide legal assistance. This event was led by Mr. Elly Kasirye, the Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee of Wakiso District, alongside Her Worship Stella Okwang, the Chief Magistrate of Entebbe Magistrates Court, who served as the distinguished guest of honour. To symbolize growth and diversity, the event is marked by planting a tree in memory of this day.
The event served as a platform for education on the importance of upholding law and order and exemplifying good citizenship. Local OCs, Mr. Mugenyi Patrick, and Mr. Matia Bwanika, the representative of Wakiso District on the Human Rights Committee, provided insightful talks to attendees. The public could voice their opinions, seek legal advice, and procure goods from the Victoria Women's Works Group, including fresh fish.
Moreover, the youth received education from the WONETHA organization on preventive measures against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Our institution, Islamic University in Uganda Female Campus (IUIU FC), participated actively by promoting and raising awareness about human rights within the community. We had a booth at the event, where our marketing team, led by Ms. Namutebi Sharifah, provided information about the university's programs and offerings.
