Dr. Naziru Rashid M.D (MBChB, MPH)
He is currently the University Medical Officer at the Islamic University in Uganda. He holds a master's degree in Public Health from Makerere University and a bachelor's degree in Medicine and surgery from the same university. He is a practicing medical doctor in Uganda.
He has served as an Ebola Virus consultant in the Ebola Virus preparedness program in the districts of southwestern Uganda under the Management Sciences for Health (MSH) Organization, which is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
He is a member of the executive committee of the Consortium of the Islamic Medical Colleges (CIMCO) of the Federation of the Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA). Dr. Naziru also serves as a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Islamic Medical Association of Uganda (IMAU)
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Naziru is also an administrator, a leader, a scientific writer a researcher, and a community worker.
He is the Medical Superintendent of the IUIU health center, sits on the university's top management committees, including the university executive board and the university management committee, and is the secretary of the university health center's health unit management committee.
He is a lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Department of Public Health.
He has researched and published several papers in international, regional, and National journals in areas of tropical disease including hepatitis B infections, COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and others. His research interests go beyond infectious diseases and clinical and epidemiological studies to include maternal and child health, health systems as well as Islam and Medicine.
Before joining IUIU, he served as a locum Doctor at Mulago National Referral Hospital, Kampala West Medical Centre, Mengo Doctors Clinic, and Vine Medical Centre.
He is a member of the governing committee of the Muslim Student Association of Uganda (MSAU), an organization of which he served as president for two years (2012 – 2014). He is also the secretary of the Rubirzi district Muslim Community and one of the founder Directors of the Mayuge Institute for Global Health Sciences Research and Innovation Limited.
He attended Nyabubare Islamic Primary School for his Primary Education, Malcolm X Academy for secondary education, and Mengo Senior School for an advanced certificate of education. He later joined Makerere University for a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
